If you were one of the 21,000 guests that attended the Totepool Cartmel Cup on Saturday 25th August 2012, then you might have met some very odd Builders and Security guards!
Due to heavy rainfall early on in the day, parts of the ground began to sink, leaving some people stuck in their tracks. A team of builders were dispatched to vacate certain areas and warn guests of the troubles occurring around the racecourse. Whilst issuing instructions to the public, the bellowing sound of “Sex Bomb” by Tom Jones filled the air, but it wasn’t the Welsh wonder singing. Before you knew it, it was the builders who had produced microphones from their tool box, singing and dancing to the complete shock of the crowd!
Down at the Paddock John the announcer got very rudely interrupted by a rather intoxicated individual, who caused quite a stir with the audience. He refused to leave the area, chanting and fumbling around and at one point he even tried to evade capture from security. Then out of nowhere without warning, both the security guards and the drunk patron began singing and dancing to the delight of the crowd! “Wait a minute, they’re not really security guards, and that man isn’t drunk!”
These were the Secret Singers, springing into life from all parts of the racecourse, entertaining the crowd! It really was a fantastic day, where all the guests got involved and enjoyed every surprise!
